Project Details
Background
The Channel Drive Corridor is a two lane, five block roadway and is home to many businesses, restaurants, fishing industry, and residents. There is a need to enhance the appearance of the corridor, improve pedestrian access, and promote multi-modal transportation opportunities through widened sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps, curbing, benches, signage, decorative intersections, and improved lighting and landscaping.
The Proposed Project
The Point Pleasant Beach Channel Drive Revitalization project, funded through a grant provided by the NJDOT, will enhance public safety, ADA accessibility, modes of transportation, the quality of life, stormwater management, the environment, and the local economy along the five block corridor, which consists of destination restaurants, bars, marinas, fishing (commercial and recreational), cruise and dinner boats, commercial development, waterfront areas, maritime shopping and nearby recreational amenities. The project includes the removal and replacement of curbs and sidewalks; installation of ADA-compliant ramps and driveway aprons; installation of ADA-compliant, color-contrasting crosswalks, pavement markings and signage; enhancement of drainage and lighting; addition of landscaping, ADA-compliant benches, bike racks, and other associated improvements. The project improvements will improve the overall look and feel of Channel Drive, with a goal of attracting visitors and tenants to support the local economy and make the area a year-round destination.
